Passion Projects
These are projects I’ve worked on for free, usually for friends and family, just for the love of design.
Fictional County Fair Logo
Almost every summer I can remember, I've visited the San Diego County Fair with my family. My dad loves the fair, and often requested it as his birthday activity. In 2020, we modified our yearly tradition of going to the San Diego County Fair, and instead, my sister and I brought the fair to our parents’ backyard. Each year, the Fair's logo and theme changes (past themes include Elvis, Going Retro, and Food). For this recreation, I created a theme - Dads - and a logo (pictured above) which we used on “signage” for different exhibits and areas of the fairgrounds (a.k.a. my parents' backyard).
Michael McDonald Concert Swag
For Mother’s Day 2021, Michael McDonald live-streamed a pay per view concert titled “Yo Mama Be There.” My sister and I purchased the livestream to watch with my mom and dad. For the show, which was held in my parents' living room, I had created concert "tickets" and laminated wristbands, which were printed strips of paper that I covered with clear packaging tape on both sides, trimming the excess. The QR code even works!
Wine Label Design
Before my friend Chris got married in 2019, he asked if I could design labels for a special batch of wine that another guest was gifting the couple, and that would be served at the wedding. I was honored to be asked, and worked with the couple to create a tarot-esque label with illustrations of the bride's favorite animal, the fox.
Baby on [Surf]Board
This little guy is my nephew Kaleo. He lives in a coastal town in SoCal and comes from a family of surfers and beach-goers. For his 1st birthday, I designed a sign-shaped graphic with a SoCal twist on the classic “Baby on Board” bumper sticker. I then got the design printed via vinyl transfer onto a blank onesie.
Fictional Food Truck Branding
Chicken Larry’s is a fictional restaurant borne from an inside joke about a handful of chicken recipes that my dad loves to serve. As a gift, I designed an official Chicken Larry’s logo, including a portrait illustration of him that I made as well. Then I got it printed on an apron. Pictured: Chicken Larry himself cooking up one of his famous chicken dishes, with the Chicken Larry’s apron on.
Podcast Logo
In 2019 I created this logo concept for a podcast chronicling a special Dungeons and Dragons game which would feature only one character against the Dungeon Master.
